Gradients have been around for a while, yet somehow they manage to keep us on our toes every year. The gradients of 2023 are no exception: this time they take the form of abstract shapes, blurred into a haze. Organic, rectangular shapes with abstract gradients create a sense of weightlessness that complements their bright colors. Noisy edges add a touch of realism, as if the gradients were made of colored sand dragged along by the wind. Gradients are naturally calming thanks to their muted colors, and the effect is enhanced by fluid abstract gradients. And since gradients don’t seem to be disappearing anytime soon, their reliable presence is reassuring. Abstract gradients have been popular for the past few years, but lately they’ve gained even more momentum in modern graphic design, and I’m starting to think about how they could become a typical creative trend that will keep growing in 2023.
